1. Stand Not With The Ungodly!

If you want to be blessed, if you want to be happy all your life, if you want to have no regrets then God says ‘don’t stand with the sinners and sin’.  Sin is ‘missing the mark’.  So stand not with those that deliberately enjoy missing the mark.  Those that enjoy doing mischief, those that commit all kinds of crime; stand not among them.

  1. Sit Not With The Scornful!

Notice first you’re walking, then you’re standing and now you’ve sat with them!  Do you see a progress or regress?  Is it adding value to you or is it degrading you?  Is it lifting you up or is it pushing you down.  Is it cleaning you up or is it corrupting you?  First you walk, then you stand, now you feel very comfortable, you sit with them!  And then they become scornful. They begin to make fun of the righteous.  Using their mouth to mock people.  When Jesus hung on the cross and He was dying for the sins of the world, we are told that the people who gathered were mocking Him with their mouths.

Proverbs 4:14-19 says, Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not go the way of evil men.  Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn away from it and pass on.  For the wicked cannot sleep unless they do evil; and they are deprived of sleep unless they make someone stumble and fall.  For they eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence.  But the path of the just (righteous) is like the light of dawn, that shines brighter and brighter until [it reaches its full strength and glory in] the perfect day.

If you will walk in the righteous path this is the promise God is giving to you.  For ‘the way of the wicked is like [deep] darkness; they do not know over what they stumble.’

Beloved, I want you to know holiness and godly living has nothing to do with the outside but it has to do with the inside.  When the Pharisees challenged Jesus Christ about eating, Jesus said ‘what you eat does not defile you.’  What goes inside your mouth does not defile you because it goes in and it comes out.  But what comes out of your mouth is what defiles you!  What comes out of your mouth defines the intentions of your heart.  So it has got to do with morality and character and God is interested in changing your character!  He’s interested in whenever you open your mouth something good comes out.  Something edifying comes out.  Let not evil communication come out of your mouth.  The power of life and death is in your mouth therefore be careful what you say!

And so walk not with the ungodly, stand not with the sinners, sit not with the scornful and you will prosper in your way.  This is a promise from God.  May God put this desire in you!
