Acts of Grace YOUR DIVINE INVITATION FROM THE CITY OF THE GREAT KING

YOUR DIVINE INVITATION FROM THE CITY OF THE GREAT KING

In John 4, we read there was a certain woman who went in the afternoon to the well.  Jesus deliberately went to the well on that day because He had an assignment to do there.  It was a custom that a man cannot speak to a woman in public unless you are related or unless you are thirsty and needed water.  So Jesus chose that opportune moment to wait at the well for this woman.  When Jesus asked the woman for some water to drink, the woman asked Him, “Who are you to ask me?  Don’t you know I am not of your race?”  But Jesus answered, “If you knew [about] God’s gift [of eternal life], and who it is who says, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him [instead], and He would have given you living water (eternal life).”  Then the woman said, “Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and who used to drink from it himself, and his sons and his cattle also?”

Many people are very proud of their heritage and culture but they don’t know who or what they worship.  Jesus said, “You [Samaritans] do not know what you worship; we do know what we worship, for salvation is from the Jews.”

The Bible says in Luke 24:46-47, “that the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed) would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and that repentance [necessary] for forgiveness of sins would be preached in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.”  From the city of the Great King, the centre of the world, the Good News was sent forth.  God chose the city of Jerusalem so He could touch the whole world!

When Abraham followed God, God spoke to Him and said, “And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you [abundantly], and make your name great (exalted, distinguished);
and in you all the families (nations) of the earth will be blessed.” (Genesis 12:2-3)

Wow! That’s quite a promise but Abraham believed God and His word was fulfilled through Abraham.  So today I’m asking you Beloved, to Believe!  Believe in the God who claims He loves you! Abraham believed the unbelievable and his whole lineage was blessed forever!

How was his lineage a blessing?  Looking at history, we see almost all great inventions were discovered by people of Jewish descent.  To name a few…

  • Thomas Edison invented the Electric light.
  • Johannes Gutenberg developed a printing press and used it first to print the Bible.
  • Wright Brothers, inspired by their father’s desire to take the Gospel all over the world, invented the first Aeroplane.
  • Christopher Columbus discovered the New World (Americas).  “Following the light of the sun, we left the Old World.  No one should fear to undertake any task in the name of our Saviour, if it is just and if the intention is purely for His holy service.  For the execution of the voyage to the Indies, I did not make use of intelligence, mathematics or maps.”

Why were all these things invented/discovered?  It all had to do with preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  God, through a man, chose to bless the whole world.   You have the opportunity of greatness within you.  You have the opportunity to be a blessing to the whole world, through Jesus Christ!  So Beloved, Believe like Abraham did and let God do the unbelievable through you!
