Season of Redemption
by Pastor Henry Pillai
God will work out situations in our lives when finally He can get us alone with Him. This is the month of Redemption, which means God is inviting you to come into the secret place. As much as you need to spend time alone with God, He is saying, I have something very intimate, very serious to reveal so I want to spend time alone with you. In the secret place is when the real miracles take place; something is birth, something is created.
And the scripture says, ‘a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day’. This is between 3 and 6 in the morning. As Jacob was praying, it seems like a man came and wrestled with him. Actually Jacob was wrestling with his own nature. The word Jacob means ‘cheater, liar, supplanter. He cheated his father, mother, brother and father-in-law. Although he had good intentions, he was always doing some funny tricks. But God knows how to fix us for our own good. God wants to wrestle the old nature out so that a new nature can come in because in all of us there are two natures, the good and the bad. So God wants to give you victory over the God- nature in you!
‘But Jacob said, “I will not let You
go unless You bless me!” So He said to him, “What is your name?” Beloved, the Lord knows your name but He wants you to know what your name is. What is the meaning of your name because you become what you are called.
“What’s your name?” “Jacob.” ‘And the Lord said, “Your name shall no longer be Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.”’ I’m changing your name, I’m changing your character. I’m changing all of you. You are no more Jacob. You will now be called Israel. Israel means, ‘a prince with God’. No more a man full of mischief; cheating, plotting. But you are going to be a prince with God. Your life today changed because you spent time with Me, because you have wrestled with Me, because I have had intimacy with you. From today onwards, you are no more what you used to be. Being a prince with God means you can struggle and overcome and you have power with God and with man because you are now prince. Once you and I have prevailed and overcome in the private prayer closet, we will prevail anywhere and everywhere and with anyone. Power with God and power over man!
Beloved, God is saying to you, come apart, come privately, come shut the door, stay with Me long enough so that you and I can know each other. I want to open My heart to you and you open your heart to Me. I want to birth something in you.
Jacob had a redemptive purpose through the covenant God
made with Abraham. Through circumstances and influences in his life, he diverted so far from his destiny. But God! God brought him back to alignment. God redeemed his identity, his destiny. God wants to do that for you too! You have a redemptive purpose too. Go into the secret place alone with God!
STORY OF PASSOVER – REDEMPTIVE PURPOSE
1. When God’s appointed time came for Pharaoh to end the affliction and totally reverse his behaviour, instead of preventing the children of Israel from leaving Egypt, suddenly ‘Pharaoh sent the people away’ (Exodus 12:31-32). Pharaoh actually helped the children of Israel leave Egypt because the time had come and this became God’s redemptive purpose for Pharaoh.
2. The Egyptians helped the children of Israel by giving their cattle, articles of gold and silver, clothing (Exodus 12:35-36). The Lord said,‘Iwillgiveyouthetreasuresof darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that you may know that I, the LORD, who call you by your name, am the God of Israel.’ (Isaiah 45:3). This became the redemptive purpose of Egypt.
3. God did not lead the children of Israel through the land of the Philistines, lest they see war and reconsider and return to Egypt (Exodus 13:17-18). Therefore, it would mean that the way that the Lord did lead the children of Israel did not pose any danger. Israel’s redemptive purpose was to leave the place of bondage and go directly into the land of milk and honey.
When the Lord calls us to do something at a specific time and place, clearly God is not asking more than we can handle because if it were beyond our abilities, God would not place us in a situation where the difficulties would cause us to give up. Wherever we go, we are not going alone. Everything is ready for your task because the steps of a righteous man are ordered by the Lord.
