‘Now thanks be to God who always leads us in TRIUMPH IN CHRIST, and through us diffuses (spreads) the fragrance of His knowledge in every place’ (2 Corinthians 2:14).

There is a stench when things corrupt.  When things die they give out a stench.  We can smell decay and corruption.  Satan, demonic powers and human beings are attracted by what is seen, what is heard and what is smelt.    However, as followers of Christ, whose lives have been changed, who are cleansed by His blood, filled by His Spirit and washed by the Word daily, we do not bring forth a stench, we bring forth a ‘fragrance’.  A sweetness that has the ability toarrest corruption and death.  This fragrance you and I have, that God has put in us because of Christ Jesus, is called the Word.  It’s called the Holy Spirit.  It produces the fruit of the Spirit.  It produces the gifts of the Spirit.  So we cannot easily be corrupted or decayed.

I’m reminded of a story during the time of Napoleon, when he was going to conquer France and all of Europe.  The army caught the young prince and was about to kill him.  Somebody came up with the brilliant idea not to kill him but to show him how to live a miserable life.  So they took him to the worst part of Paris and placed him with an old prostitute, running a brothel and told him to live there and see the hunger, the murder, the rape, the lying and the cheating and see the difference of living in a palace and the slums.  So he stayed there.  One day the old lady got angry with him, cursing and swearing, she spat at him and said, ‘you have been living with us for six months.  Why don’t you become like us?  Think like us, talk like us, live like us!  Why don’t you become like one of us?!’  And his answer was, ‘I cannot be like you because I was born to be King!’

Beloved, you are born to be sons and daughters of God!  You cannot be like the world.  So think different!  In the midst of all the corruption and stench and filth that we are being baptised with daily, it cannot overcome you because you have within you the living Christ.  You breathe Him, you live Him, you walk Him.  You read the Word, you’re praying without ceasing.

2 Corinthians 4:8-10 says, ‘We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed – always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.

Notice, in the Scripture above, the punctuation that is at every challenge.  Every challenge or word Paul uses in that Scripture, there is a comma, not a full-stop.  Comma means just a‘pause’.  Comma means a ‘temporary stop’.  It is not a ‘full’ stop.

Are you in a problem?  It’s just a comma.  Are you in a trial?  It’s just a comma.  Are you so suppressed and cast down?  It’s just a comma.  It’s not a full stop, it’s just a comma.  A pause for you to breathe in and breathe out and know who you are and where you are and then take the next step.  It’s only a comma!

So, come up!  Think differently!  There is a fragrance that comes out of you that has a purifying effect.  Let it come forth!  That would cause you to TRIUMPH!

Names and Attributes of God – To Use in Prayer
