THE PRICE OF DISCIPLESHIP (PART 2)

Sometimes we want to only follow Jesus because of what we can receive from Him.  Do you realise that following Jesus costs your life? What is the price of discipleship?

  1. Selflessness (v26)

Jesus said, if you love your family or your business more than you love Him then you’re not qualified to be His disciple.  In other words, your willingness to give up everything for Jesus! Selflessness NOT Selfishness! Selflessness requires foolish obedience.  When God commanded Abraham to leave his hometown, the Bible says, he left his place not knowing where to go. When you decide to follow Jesus and give up your dreams and desires, you will fall under the promise of God, “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and ALL these things shall be added unto you!”  Therefore, don’t be selfish!

  1. Be Ready for the Inconvenience (v27)

The Cross symbolizes suffering, rejection, condemnation, persecution, separation, pain, sorrow, humiliation and even death!  When you decide to follow Jesus, even those that were close to you may become your no. 1 enemy. Don’t expect a Crown without a Cross!  Those trials and persecutions that you went through, because you follow Jesus, didn’t happen to destroy you but they are the admission fee to the next level of your promotion!  When God wants to do something great in your life, He will push you out of your comfort zone. You cannot walk on the water of miracles if you don’t want to get out of the boat! Do you want to see the power of God over everything in your life?  Then you need to be ready for the inconvenience!

  1. Reciprocity – The Law of Sowing and Reaping (v33)

One day, the rich man asked Jesus what he had to do to inherit eternal life (Mark 10:17-30).  Jesus told him, “Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.”  The rich man’s countenance changed and he went away sad for he had many possessions. Jesus said “everyone who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or property, for my sake and for the Good News, will receive now in return a hundred times as much in this present age.”  When you give something to God, you never lose.  You gain! God will not ask for something that He does not have the ability to give back to you in double measure.

If your giving doesn’t hurt you, it’s not giving at all.  It’s easy to give if there is much left in your house or in your bank account.  But if that is your last flour and oil and God said ‘sow it’, there would be a big question mark running in your mind.  The size of your harvest is determined by the size of the seed you sow! Sometimes we want big harvest but we sow little seed.  The worse thing is sometimes we eat our seed. God is faithful and true to His Word! God blesses us not because we are good but because He is God!  When you start to pay the price, miracles start to happen.

What are the things you cherish the most in your life?  God sent His Only Son, the One that He loved the most! When God sowed His son, we reap a lot of sons and daughters and thank God we are one of those sons and daughters that have been saved by God!
