SCRIPTURE OF THE WEEK: PSALM 1
‘And he will be like a tree firmly planted [and fed] by streams of water….’ There is a planter that planted you. He’s nourishing you, He’s encouraging you. He’s given His Word, He’s given the ministry. He’s given so many opportunities in the church to build you up beside the streams of water.
So it’s the will of God that everything in your life is blessed. How to be blessed? Walk not with the ungodly, stand not with the sinners and sit not with the scornful! If you can take care of this and meditate on what God is saying for your good only, then whatsoever you do will prosper! Because He promises you good returns (Jeremiah 29:11). So invest! Jesus said to the foolish man, if you had taken that little bit you had and invested it, so that when I return you could give it back to me with profit. But he did not do anything so Jesus said, even what you have I will take it back from you because you are profit-less. You don’t know how to make profit from your life.
Psalm 1:4, ‘The wicked [those who live in disobedience to God’s law] are not so,
but they are like the chaff [worthless and without substance] which the wind blows away.’
Chaff means ‘worthless, dead, empty vessels but making a lot of noise, without substance’.
Who are the wicked? The disobedient and living without God.
God is righteous. The word righteous means ‘right standing with God’. Are you standing right with God? If you are not, you can’t stand! You can’t stand correction, you can’t stand rebuke, you can’t stand instruction, you can’t stand discipline. Walk into a pagan place of worship and see how they honour and respect the place concerning timing, punctuality, dressing. What a difference it is in a church! Do we really honour God?
Please remember beloved, this Scripture is not written to the non-believer. The Epistles in the New Testament were written to the Church, dealing with their sin, dealing with their rebellion and giving them the warnings. It was not written to the sinner, it was written to the saints so they will continue to walk in righteousness and not fall back into rebellion and disobedience.
So if you choose to walk with the ungodly or stand with the sinners or sit with the scornful, God is saying you cannot get the blessings and the benefits God has in store for you. For the Lord knows and is fully acquainted with the way of the righteous. But those living outside God’s will shall perish.
So my prayer for you is that everything you do should have profit, should benefit you, should bless you and others. Then you are considered a wise steward of the manifold gifts and grace God has given you. That’s faith! Faith is obeying God.
